2pm - Intro to Emma, workshop objectives and demo of how to draw on the tablets;
2.15pm - Go to Glass Gallery and draw designs;
3pm - Back in the studio, while the V&A assistant prints off the designs on to cotton sheets, students do a design of their bag layout/visual arrangement including a decorative frame around the edge on to paper;
3.25pm - Students stick cotton printouts on to canvas bags and add 'framing' decorations to make the glass design shine and reflect!
3.50pm - Show the group all the designs, evaluation and photography;
4pm - finish.
Glass is made by melting together several minerals at very high temperatures. Silica in the form of sand is the main ingredient and this is combined with soda ash and limestone and melted in a furnace at temperatures of 1700°C. Other materials can be added to produce different colours or properties.
